The model is filled with a repeating pattern of pieces. Most lie flat in layers. In every layer some pieces stand on edge and reach through three layers, and each piece's notch grips a neighbour. That grip is what ties the layers into one solid body.
Thin legs, walls and tips that the pattern cannot reach are filled with extra pieces in whatever position locks in. Parts thinner than about three piece thicknesses are left out, so raise the detail if something goes missing.
